Live plants will be eaten and should be considered a food source. The fluid sacks can impair feeding, close observation is needed to be sure they are eating. Hand feeding will ensure that all fish are eating.

Compatibility A peaceful and schooling fish that mixes well with other goldfish. Careful observation is needed as other fish may pick at the eyebubbles.

Habitat China: Moderately decorated with rocks, plastic plants and driftwood. Decorations should not have any sharp points on them, otherwise they could injure the sacs under their eyes.

Breeding During the spawning season the male will have tubercles (small white dots, not to be confused with the disease ich) on their head, pectoral fins and gill covers. Thousands of eggs are produced and the parents are veracious egg eaters and must be removed immediately after spawning.

Additional Comments The Bubble Eye should have a short, deep body with a hump in the shoulder area. The fins are relatively long and the dorsal fin is absent. The eyes are up turned ( Celestial) with a large fluid filled bladder beneath. These " bubbles" are delicate and are easily damaged. They will repair themselves in time. Care should be given to tank decorations and other fish to prevent damage. Are best kept with other Bubble eye or Celestrial goldfish.
