Ancestors of the breed: Celtic Pony, Spanish Jennet, Arabian, and Thoroughbred.

Primary uses: riding, jumping, and driving.

Color: usually grey; can be black, brown, or bay.

Height: 13 - 14 hands.

Physique: an intelligent, well carried head, medium length neck on sloping shoulders, deep compact body, short legs.

Character: intelligent, kind, sensible, and tractable.
