The Swedish Gotland or Skogruss pony is probably the oldest of the Scandinavian breeds It once lived in a semi-wild state on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea in the Lφjsta forest in Sweden. They probably lived there since the Stone Age The Gotland pony were once employed as a general purpose farm pony, but modern ponies are now used for riding This breed has pronounced withers, a long back and a sloping croup The chest is deep and the long shoulders are sloped The legs are strong and feet are hard They stand at about 12 to 12.2 hands high Dun and bay are the most common colours, although all colours are allowed except albinos, roans and piebalds This breed is very gently but lively. They are strong enough to carry adults
