• The Swedish Gotland or Skogruss pony is probably the oldest of the Scandinavian breeds

• It once lived in a semi-wild state on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea in the Lφjsta forest in Sweden. They probably lived there since the Stone Age

• The Gotland pony were once employed as a general purpose farm pony, but modern ponies are now used for riding

• This breed has pronounced withers, a long back and a sloping croup

• The chest is deep and the long shoulders are sloped

• The legs are strong and feet are hard

• They stand at about 12 to 12.2 hands high

• Dun and bay are the most common colours, although all colours are allowed except albinos, roans and piebalds

• This breed is very gently but lively. They are strong enough to carry adults
