This pony orignated from Tyrol, Austria and is distinguished by its strking chestnut or palomino colouring, accompanied by a flaxen mane or tail

The centre of the Haflinger breeding is the village of Hafling in the Etschlander Mountains in Austria. The principal stud is at Jenesien

The pony is cold blooded, but has an Arab foundation sire, El Bedavi XXII

The breed is a mountain pony, reared on the high alpine pastures and therefore works easily on these steep slops

The pony has many uses - it is ridden, used in forestry work and will draw a sleigh or wheeled vehicles

This strong, hardy breed are known to live to an old age - despite not working until 4 years old, they are still active at 40 years

The pony has an expressive head with large eyes, wide nostrils and small ears

The body is long and loins are strong

• Legs are strong and hooves are hard

• A hard working pony with great strength and a calm docile attitude

• The pony stands ar arounf 13.3 hands high
