• The Jutland is Denmark's breed of heavy horse

• It has been bred on the Jutland Peninsula since the Middle Ages and before

• It was used for agriculture and all types of draught - however now that its numbers have declined, it is usually seen hauling brewers' drays on city streets

• Like other heavy horse breeds, the Jutland is derived from the coldblood Forest Hope of prehistory

• By the 12th century it was used as a sturdy war horse

• The Jutland is a medium sized draught horse with a quick, free action

• Similarily to the Suffolk Punch, the coat is almost always chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail

• It differs from the Suffolk Punch because Jutland's legs carry a heavy feather

• The breed is docile, kindly and a keen worker

• The Jutland has a plain, heavy head with a squared muzzle

• The neck is short and thick and the shoulders are heavily muscled with an exceptionally broad chest

• The withers are broad and flat

• The horse stands at 15 to 16 hands high
