• This horse is known as the Lippizzan and the Lipizzaner

• The Lipizanner is bred extensively in Hungary, Romania, Czechoslovakia and Slovenia - each country produces its own type

• The horse descends from Spanish horses, taking its name from the stud at Lipica in Slovenia

• Many Lipizzaners are used as much in harness as under saddle. The Hungrarian-bred Lippizzaners are superb carriage horses

• All Lipizzaners trace back to six stallions: Pluto (grey - Fredericksborg), Conversano (black) and Neapolitano (bay-brown - Neapolitan, an extinct Italian breed), Favory (dun) and Maestoso (white - Kladruber) and Siglavy (grey - Arab)

• The horse has a fairly large head with small ears. The neck is crested

• The body is compact

• Feet are hard

• Full mane and tail

• Intelligent, obedient and gentle by nature

• Colours of the horse are grey, born dark, black brown or mousy grey, turning to white or gray between ages of 6 to 10 years

• Height: 15.1 to 16.2 hands high

• Popular Uses: High school dressage, driving, riding, trail, pleasure, carriage, light farm work, endurance, airs above ground (classical dressage using moves such a levade, courbette and capriole)
