• It is one of the toughest and most versatile of European competition breeds

• During the 19th century, Norman breeders imported Thoroughbred and half-bred stallions from England to cross with their Norman stock

• After the World War II, the Selle Français was further developed using Trotters, Throughbreds, Arabs and Ango-Arabs

• Due to its diversified origins conformation can vary

• The Selle Français generally has a neat, attractive head, set on to a long neck

The shoulders are usually sloping, the chest is deep and the body is long and muscular

They stand at around 16 hands high
