Pixie Frogs Temperature/Humidity: Ideal daytime temperature for pixie frogs should range between 75ºF and 85ºF. Additionally, a small undertank heater should be used on one end of the enclosure to maintain the temperature of 85ºF - 90ºF. Nighttime temperature should remain between 70ºF and 75ºF. The humidity for pixie frogs should be kept at or near 80 percent. Lighting: Most reptiles and some amphibians require ultraviolet lighting to maintain good health. Although nocturnal (mainly active at night) frogs don't require ultraviolet lighting, if it is part of the habitat design, it is recommended for 12 hours per day. The use of a timer will assist in maintaining an accurate schedule of light periods.

Feeding/Watering: In their native environment, pixie frogs are opportunistic eaters (they'll eat almost anything that crosses their path and fits in their mouth). Captive bred, juvenile pixie frogs do well on a diet consisting of a variety of vitamin/calcium dusted insects such as crickets, mealworms and waxworms. Some individuals will also eat earthworms and fish. Fresh clean water should always be available as well as daily misting of the enclosure. Adult pixie frogs should be fed 1-2 times per week.

Habitat/Housing: Pixie frogs should always be kept singularly as cannibalism is common among pixie frogs. Successful permanent maintenance requires a moderately sized terrarium (10-20 gallon). A screen lid is essential for proper air exchange. The enclosure must include either a sloped large water bowl or allow for a shallow soaking area. This can be accomplished by using gravel as a substrate and sloping it to form a "beach" area. It is also recommended that a small powerhead water filter be used to keep the water clean. Large, sturdy live plants can be used in pixie frog enclosures to maintain humidity levels and create a natural atmosphere. Misting the habitat once or twice daily will help maintain proper humidity levels. Substrate

(Bedding): 2" to 3" inches of Bed-A-Beast is recommended for pixie frog terrariums to maintain proper humidity levels. However, gravel should be used when creating a "beach" tank to ensure the water remains clear and the filter is to work efficiently. The substrate should be kept moist, but changed regularly to avoid bacterial growth. Traits: Circumference up to 9" Pixie frogs become rather large with extra large mouths. Accidental biting can occur if the frog mistakes you as a food item. Therefore, when handling, always approach frog from the back first to help it differentiate between friend and food! When overfed, these frogs will become obese. It is recommended that as adults, these frogs be maintained on a regimented diet.
