Wolf Human contact with dogs began at least 12000 years ago. Studys suggest that all to-day's breeds are descendants from the Grey Wolf (Canis Lupus) This species was once the most wildly distributed of all mammals. They range in weight. Some individuals from Alaska can weigh 177lb. (80kg) Those from the Asiatic Steppes can be as small as 27lb. (12kg).
