Burmese

The Burmese is named after Burma, where they have been traced back to the 15th century around Buddhist temples. The Burmese is extremely affectionate and very bright.

Burmese are small and compact. Their coats have a unique gloss that makes them shine like polished wood. There are many varieties which differ on each side of the Atlantic. The American Burmese has more rounder features than the British standard, i.e. its body, head and eyes. Sable (a rich, dark brown) is the most popular color. Unlike the Havana Brown, Burmese come in other colors as well. Champagne (honey beige) and blue (bluish gray) are also popular colors. Platinum (silver with fawn or gray undertones) is beautiful but rare.

The Traditional Burmese is a normal-looking cat, while the Extreme has a round head with large round bulging eyes. Extreme Burmese are also called Contemporary Burmese. Occasionally, Burmese kittens are born with long hair.
