Norwegian Forest Cat

Since Norwegian Forest Cats, often called Wegies, are prized for their hunting abilities, they're often kept on farms in Norway to help control vermin.

The outer hairs on their thick, shaggy coats are water repellent. Their coats become bushy in the winter, but then shed so heavily in spring and summer that Norwegian Forest Cats hardly look like longhaired cats. Norwegian Forest Cats are large and hearty; males can reach 15 pounds. They have wide paws and thick bushy tails. While these cats have a lot in common with the Maine Coon Cat, they're different in many ways. For instance, Maine Coons' faces are long and rectangular, while Norwegian Forest Cats are boxy. Maine Coons have a slight curve in their noses; Norwegian Forest Cats don't. Their ears are widely spaced and titled forward, while Maine Coons' ears sit on top of their heads. Tabby is the most popular coat pattern, although many colors and patterns are available. The coats on tabbies are thicker than the coats on solid and bicolored Norwegian Forest Cats. Norwegian Forest Cats usually have greenish-gold eyes.

Weggies are very affectionate cats, which can sometimes become quite demanding for pet owners. They love to be outdoors and are very intelligent and playful.
