Russian Blue

Russian Blues have super thick coats that are packed so tightly you can draw pictures on their backs with your fingers, leaving an impression. Their coats aren't wooly like the Chartreux's, but are silky soft. Probably the most famous example of the breed is Vashka, who was owned by Tsar Nicholas I of Russia. In Russia they are consider to be good luck.

Each hair on a Russian Blue should be bluish gray with silver tipping, which is heaviest around the head, neck, and chest. Russian Blues have a silvery sheen when they move. Pale "lavender" shades are more popular than dark slate blue or dark gray. Russian Blues have bright green eyes and mauve paw pads. Kittens may have faint tabby markings until their adult coloring develops. Russian Blues are fine-boned, long, firm, and muscular. Their ears are very large and set very far apart. Their ears look almost translucent. Russian Blues are not "rounded" like the British Shorthair. They have fine-boned legs and small paws, and look as if they're walking on tip-toes. Their profiles are straight and their eyes are round. Kittens start out with blue eyes, then the color turns to amber and finally to a bright emerald green. Some cats don't get their full eye color until they're two years old.
