As Shelledwarriors have said, you are best to purchase UK captive-bred babies & not ones which have had to endure a testing journey & their source is at best dubvious.

Anyone who offers to mail out tortoises should be steered clear of, as should pet shops and garden centres. Small caring UK breeders are the best places to acquire your tortoises.

can you tell us who the carrier network who are doing the transporting are. We run an international movement company (yes throughout uk too) and would find it would be breaking quite a few laws if we tried to next day send them. If youu can find out we can help to stop this by cutting off their logistics chain.

If that is the case then why do DEFRA re-issue the CITES licences in the UK?? Have any of you contacted DEFRA to check into this further? Why also do you come on and not leave your email/ contact details? It makes you look dubious yourself.

Please contact me on 01228 510022 to discuss this further and actually speak to me. Like Shelledwarrior (Sarah Berry) I'm yet to hear from any of you, but still look forward to it.

Carl.

Dear Denton Parrots,

Defra re-issue the licences because they are a inefficient government department who does not have the resources to go out to Slovenia to check they are captive bred. What happens is they set up a breeding centre in Slovenia (or wherever -though usually Sloveniea) and then capture babies on the pretence the babies are captive bred from the Adults in their sheds who literally produce 100's of babies a year. But do you care about these poor animals suffering so long as the money is rolling in?

Would you please try the following websites/forums for legitimate reputable UK breeders:-

http://www.tortoise-world.com/
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Tortsmad/
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Tortoisefriends/
http://forums.shelledwarriors.co.uk/

The administrators of all these sites vet the breeders and ensure the babies are bred in the UK and definitely not wild-caught imports.

Thanks
